MARK ABIS
China Ship

Following his debut album Changing Inside, Mark Abis’ second studio album China Ship contains a set of powerfully emotive songs about fragility, loss and renewal. We decided to go for a painting or drawing rather than a photograph, and we started looking through various artists’ work to commission pieces for the artwork.
For the front cover we chose “Empty Vessel”, a pastel drawing by contemporary British artist George Dawnay. It portrays a crouching figure about to arise from foetal position. Beside the figure can be seen a small empty china cup.
For the back cover we chose “Spike”, another beautiful pastel drawing of a pair of feet positioned close to an upward pointing spike in the ground.
